To define and secure boilers safely, some professional specialized organizations such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) develop standards and regulation codes. For instance, the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code is a standard providing a wide range of rules and directives to ensure compliance of the boilers and other pressure vessels with safety, security and design

How does pressurizing of a pressure vessel work? - redd

Once you have pressure on the system, how it is maintained is based on the system and its design. For boilers you use back pressure regulators during startup, and you use your master load controller to adjust firing rate to ensure steam supply meets demand (boiler pressure is typically an input to the system).

For example, the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) Section VIII (2013) uses the concept of Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP). This pressure is determined based on the design temperature, allowable stress for each material in the system, and the installed thickness minus the corrosion allowance.

Boiler Pressure and Central Heating System Pressure -- Wh

If the boiler pressure is only raised to 1½ bar, with the system cold no water the water pressure is not enough to compress the air within the expansion vessel. However, as the system heats up, the water pressure will increase and water will start to enter the expansion vessel, compressing the air pocket on the other side of the diaphragm.

I've disconnected the pipe thats used to fill the boiler and there are some drips of water from the mains (1 every 2 secs), surely thats not enough to increase pressure in the boiler? I've spoken to Halstead, who've said that the expansion vessel may have water in or its the mains valve (already checked).
